Planning A Wedding – DIY or Not!

Yay! I am about to start planning our wedding/bryllup and will be sharing some parts of the process here… To start with, I am considering going the DIY way with many things… I mean it can’t be that terrible can it? and I think I’m quite good with organising.

As a Yoruba girl I am going to have a Traditional Yoruba Wedding in addition to a Christian Wedding. Traditions where I come from must be observed (boyfriend not particularly keen :p ). Due to Nigerian parents’ tendencies to have very strong opinions over the traditional wedding I have chosen to focus most of my creativity on my Christian Wedding and just give little requests here and there for the Traditional Wedding.

So ‘to-be brides’, wedding planners and recent brides or anyone with experience reading this… how and where do I start on planning a wedding??? We have come up with a guest list but after reaching out to two venues in/around Oslo and receiving their menu we have considered cutting the list short. We want a very intimate ceremony and party, to be surrounded by people who know us individually and as a couple.

Right now we have settled on one venue. (The view is beautiful). We have also settled to have both weddings in about a year. I know i’ll need a photographer/videographer, and DJ but do I really need a decorator? Would I be able to handle decor?

Here is a recent picture from my friends Traditional Yoruba Wedding where I was a bridesmaid(can you spot me?). Please share any wedding planning advice you may have and feel free to ask any questions you might have about my traditions.

…To DIY the wedding or Not? I think i’ll start by buying myself an organiser.

  2. I have issues with this planning stuff too right now. It’s my sister’s wedding though. And it’s the first wedding in my ‘nuclear’ family. Your traditional wedding was beautiful tho. The décor and all.
